- The manual is not correctly written. You don't want to leave the camera set to AIM. Either set it in Quick Start or Custom. Quick Start has preset settings that can't be altered. Custom allows you to choose your own settings. Custom is what you'll most likely want set at No Delay for security purposes. When you set the switch to Custom Start the screen will say Motion Detect. Press the right arrow button and the screen should go to a battery percentage, pic count, and underneath that it will start cycling through some of your settings. It will then start a count down and then turn itself off. The camera is now armed and taking pics of movement. Be sure to remove the white security sticker on the inside of the door as it has caused problems for people pressing against the camera buttons when the door is closed.
- Oh my gosh thank you! I could not figure this out from the instructions.
- Just received my new Moultrie M-40i and after a 2 day stint at trying to get it programmed with not so clear manual I am searching for a 'how to' video with step by step instructions. Anyone have any suggestions? You Tube seems void of much info on this camera.
- What are you trying to program the camera to do, @Salrindsrt ?
- I wish to monitor the sidewalk in front of my home 24/7 Using a 32GB SD class 10 card and the camera takes took 788 pictures but when I place the card in my computer (have 3, 2 win7 and 1 win10) and they all will show about 35 excellent photos and the rest of the current test of 788 pictures will seemingly load but they show a window on the computer that says 'windows photo viewer can't open this picture because either photo viewer doesn't support this file format, or you don't have the latest updates to photo viewer' Totally confused because 1st 35 photos are there. Believe that negates the ' file format' problem. I downloaded the only version of photo viewer driver I could locate early this AM and still No Joy. Anyone have a suggestion?
- Try this, take a point and shoot camera that accepts a SD card. Put the card from the camera in it and see if you can view the pictures. Most cameras will recognize the pics and let you view them. If that works, the issue lies with your PC and not the files (pics).
- I can view a small portion of the pictures the M-40I has taken, All of the file data is present on the computer but when you click photos after a certain point in the file there are no longer any photos shown. I only get the aforementioned windows message in a window where all the other photos appeared. I tried your suggestion just now because I had my digital camera handy and when I plug in the
moultrie sd card the camera says 'Cannot Display File' - Point of information, the camera shows Pix from most recent to 1st one taken and scrolling back through the file from most recent to Pix # 1 i get pictures @ the same point on the card as I have with all 3 of my computer. The camera is @ fault I'm sure except, If I had a comprehensive set of setup instructions to go by, I may find it's the nut behind the 1st control here. A lot of info online except none for the M-40i specifically. The M-40 is there but controls are different in name and layout.
- That's interesting. I'm starting to wonder if the SD card is corrupt. It's almost like the camera/card were working together well for the first 35 pictures and then something went sideways.I'm not sure if it's been suggested yet, but if you have another SD card, I would try that one and see if it corrects the issue. Either way, you can rule out the SD card as the culprit. If the pics still won't show on the new card, then it's like an issue with the camera. I don't think that's in the settings (at least I can't think of anything that would cause that to happen) so it's likely something in the camera software that may have gone bad.
- Question. I have 40I and love the pictures but how can I set it up to only shoot motion. The last two times I have checked it I have had 3800 pictures and 2700 pictures. I dont need this many taken and only want motion. I had it set at a 24 hour lapse and at 30 seconds I believe. How can i set it up to not have so may pictures. Lots of deer in some and the rest are nothing.

Lots of deer in some and the rest are nothing. You need to set the camera to Motion Detect instead of Time Lapse. - Is it that simple? So i put the time lapse at none? What menu is the motion detect on? I will have to say, I love the camera but the menu set up isn't good.
- Don't have to worry about doing anything to time lapse. Push the menu button, then push the up or down button until you see Motion Detect. Push the right arrow button and it will be activated to take pics. Before that you will want set up your pic settings. On Motion Detect you push the left arrow to select delay, pir setting, etc... You will need to go to Photo/Video and push the left arrow to choose mp setting, flash range, multi shot. I have mine set to no delay, max flash, 4mp, single shot.
